Nasolabial folds are the lines running from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth. Everyone has them to some degree and they are part of a normal face, but they deepen when the cheek above loses volume and the tissue begins to fold over the fixed crease.
Filling the fold directly is the obvious move and often the wrong one. It can leave a heavy ridge either side of the mouth without addressing why the fold deepened. In most cases the better result comes from restoring cheek support above, which lifts the tissue off the fold, followed by a small amount of soft filler in the crease itself if it is still needed.
How much is needed depends entirely on depth. Some people need only cheek support. Others need both. You will get an honest assessment of which category you are in.
