Skin boosters are the treatment most people should probably have had before they had anything else. They add no volume and create no shape. What they do is improve the skin itself, its hydration, its elasticity and how much collagen it is producing.

That makes them a genuinely different category from filler. Filler rebuilds structure that has been lost. Skin boosters improve the material draped over that structure. Most faces need attention to both, and treating one while ignoring the other is why some people look filled rather than refreshed.

Where the skin has lost firmness rather than quality, the answer is usually a collagen biostimulator instead. Those sit on the [skin tightening](/treatments/skin-tightening/) page, and the two categories are often planned together.

The treatments we use, and who each one suits

There is no single best skin booster. There are several that do genuinely different jobs, and choosing correctly matters far more than the brand name on the box.

  • Profhilo. Hydrate, firm, remodel. One of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available, and unlike a filler it spreads through the tissue rather than staying where it is placed. Best for crepey skin, lost elasticity and dehydration.
  • Skinvive. Skin corrector, glass skin, smooth. An injectable hyaluronic acid designed to refine texture and roughness, including the appearance of acne scarring, for a luminous finish.
  • Polynucleotides. Repair, regenerate, rejuvenate. Purified DNA fragments that act as a repair signal to your fibroblasts. Better suited to skin that is genuinely thin, damaged or inflamed, and outstanding around the eyes.
  • Exosomes. Renew, repair, restore. An advanced regenerative treatment supporting cellular communication and skin renewal, often combined with microneedling.
  • NCTF 135 HA. Revitalise, hydrate, glow. Hyaluronic acid combined with vitamins, amino acids, minerals and antioxidants, for dull, dehydrated or tired looking skin.
  • Jalupro Super Hydro. Hydrate, support, firm. Hyaluronic acid with amino acids and peptides, supporting the facial retaining ligaments for a subtle lifting effect alongside the hydration.

How Natalja decides which you need

Age is a rough guide rather than a rule, but it is where the conversation usually starts. Clients in their twenties and thirties are most often treated with polynucleotides or NCTF as prevention. Clients in their forties tend to benefit most from Profhilo, for hydration and elasticity. From the fifties onward it is frequently a combination, or a move toward collagen biostimulators where structural support has started to go.

Beyond age, it comes down to what your skin is actually short of. Dehydration and lost bounce point to Profhilo. Texture, roughness and scarring point to Skinvive. Cellular repair, thin skin or a reactive complexion point to polynucleotides or exosomes. Dullness and fatigue point to NCTF. Laxity with dehydration points to Jalupro.

Lifestyle matters too. A single-session treatment suits someone who cannot get back for a course, even if a course would have been the better clinical answer. That trade-off is discussed honestly rather than glossed over.

What treatment actually feels like

The consultation takes thirty to forty five minutes. Your skin is examined closely, your goals are discussed, and you are told plainly what each treatment can and cannot do for you.

During treatment the finest available needles are used, and numbing cream is applied if you would prefer it. Most clients describe it as minor discomfort, less than a blood test. Expect some redness and possible slight swelling for twenty four to forty eight hours, and small raised bumps at the injection points that settle within a few hours. You can return to work the same day.

Results follow different timelines. Profhilo gives immediate hydration with the full effect at four to six weeks. Polynucleotides and exosomes build gradually over eight to twelve weeks. Skinvive and NCTF show a change in radiance early and continue to improve.

What to expect

Skin Boosters step by step

Before and during your treatment

  • A thorough consultation before your first treatment, during which your medical history is discussed and recorded so any contraindication is picked up before anything is drawn up
  • Your lifestyle is discussed too, so expectations are managed honestly from the outset
  • The procedure is explained clearly, step by step
  • You and Natalja look at your reflection together, and she shows you how the result will be achieved
  • Photographs are taken for your clinical record only, never used publicly without separate written consent
  • You are made comfortable on the treatment couch and the area is cleansed
  • You are shown the product, and the batch or vial number is recorded on your consultation form
  • Natalja talks you through every step as she works, so nothing happens without warning
  • The treatment is not painful. You may feel the insertion of a very fine needle
  • Every effort is made to avoid side effects, and the possible ones are discussed with you at consultation

After your treatment

  • Stay upright for four hours immediately after treatment
  • No exercise for 48 hours
  • No saunas, steam rooms or heat treatments to the face for 2 weeks
  • No facials for 2 weeks
  • Have treatment at least two weeks before a holiday or an event, so the result has time to reach its full effect
  • Aftercare is discussed with you, and a PDF of the leaflet is emailed to you
  • You are given the chance to look in the mirror before you leave
  • A review appointment is made to check you have the result you wanted, with photographs taken for your record

What age can I have treatment?

We are aware of the power of influence and the harm it can do. We are happy to treat clients from the age of 21, provided we are confident it is in their best interest after a thorough consultation.

If Natalja is not confident about a request, we reserve the right to refuse treatment. We are sorry if that disappoints anyone, but the decision is only ever made for your safety.

Treatments that work well alongside

We offer a range of treatments that complement one another, including skin boosters to plump and freshen the skin, anti-wrinkle injections, polynucleotides, and dermal fillers for the cheeks, temples, tear troughs, lips, chin and jawline. That lets us build a bespoke plan rather than selling you a single treatment, and it is usually a combination that produces the result people actually want.

If you are looking for the latest and most trusted aesthetic treatments in London, Face Code Aesthetic is ready to welcome you.

Questions

Frequently asked

This is exactly why skin boosters suit the way we work. The change is gradual and there is no alteration to the shape of your face. People notice you look well and generally cannot say why.

Profhilo around six to nine months, Skinvive around six to nine, polynucleotides six to twelve. All of them benefit from maintenance rather than being one-off fixes, because the underlying collagen loss carries on regardless.

Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your body, and polynucleotides are highly purified and biocompatible. Both have long safety records in clinical use. As with any injectable, the risk sits with technique and assessment rather than the product, which is why the choice of injector matters.

A skin booster improves the quality and hydration of the skin. A biostimulator rebuilds the collagen scaffold underneath it, so it firms and supports rather than hydrates. They are different jobs and they are often planned together. The biostimulators are on the skin tightening page.

Frequently, yes. Skin boosters are often planned alongside anti-wrinkle injections or filler, because they address something the other treatments do not. The sequencing is worked out at consultation.

For most people new to this, Profhilo if the complaint is dull, flat, dehydrated skin, and polynucleotides if the complaint is thin, crepey or reactive skin, particularly around the eyes. You will get a specific recommendation rather than a menu.
