Marionette Lines Treatment in Putney

Lifting the corners of a mouth that has started to turn down at rest.

Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth down toward the jaw, named after the hinged mouth of a puppet. Alongside them the mouth corners themselves begin to turn downward at rest, which is the part most people actually mind.

The effect is that you look disappointed or stern when you feel neither, and people start asking whether you are alright. It is one of the most common reasons clients book, and one of the most satisfying to treat because it changes what your face communicates.

Two different causes, two different treatments, usually combined.

Two causes, two treatments

There are two separate things happening, and lasting results usually need both addressed.

The first is muscular. A small muscle called the depressor anguli oris runs from the mouth corner down to the jaw, and its job is to pull the corner down. With age it becomes dominant over the muscles that lift, so the corner sits low even at rest. A tiny dose relaxes that downward pull and lets the corner sit up. This starts from £90.

The second is volume. The tissue above the line thins and folds over the crease, deepening it into a shadow. A small amount of soft filler restores support and softens the groove itself.

Most people over forty five benefit from treating both the muscle and the volume.

Which you need

If your mouth corners turn down at rest but the line itself is shallow, muscle treatment alone is often enough. If there is a deep etched crease running to the jaw, filler is needed as well. Most people over about forty five benefit from both, done in the same appointment.

Restraint is essential around the mouth. It is a complex area with a lot of muscles working closely together, and heavy handed treatment shows immediately in how you speak and smile. Small doses, reviewed at two weeks, is the whole approach.

What to expect

Marionette Lines step by step

Before and during your treatment

  • A thorough consultation before your first treatment, during which your medical history is discussed and recorded so any contraindication is picked up before anything is drawn up
  • Your lifestyle is discussed too, so expectations are managed honestly from the outset
  • The procedure is explained clearly, step by step
  • You and Natalja look at your reflection together, and she shows you how the result will be achieved
  • Photographs are taken for your clinical record only, never used publicly without separate written consent
  • You are made comfortable on the treatment couch and the area is cleansed
  • You are shown the product, and the batch or vial number is recorded on your consultation form
  • Natalja talks you through every step as she works, so nothing happens without warning
  • The treatment is not painful. You may feel the insertion of a very fine needle
  • Every effort is made to avoid side effects, and the possible ones are discussed with you at consultation

After your treatment

  • Stay upright for four hours immediately after treatment
  • No exercise for 48 hours
  • No saunas, steam rooms or heat treatments to the face for 2 weeks
  • No facials for 2 weeks
  • Have treatment at least two weeks before a holiday or an event, so the result has time to reach its full effect
  • Aftercare is discussed with you, and a PDF of the leaflet is emailed to you
  • You are given the chance to look in the mirror before you leave
  • A review appointment is made to check you have the result you wanted, with photographs taken for your record

What age can I have treatment?

We are aware of the power of influence and the harm it can do. We are happy to treat clients from the age of 21, provided we are confident it is in their best interest after a thorough consultation.

If Natalja is not confident about a request, we reserve the right to refuse treatment. We are sorry if that disappoints anyone, but the decision is only ever made for your safety.

Treatments that work well alongside

We offer a range of treatments that complement one another, including skin boosters to plump and freshen the skin, anti-wrinkle injections, polynucleotides, and dermal fillers for the cheeks, temples, tear troughs, lips, chin and jawline. That lets us build a bespoke plan rather than selling you a single treatment, and it is usually a combination that produces the result people actually want.

If you are looking for the latest and most trusted aesthetic treatments in London, Face Code Aesthetic is ready to welcome you.

Questions

Frequently asked

Because the muscle that pulls the mouth corner down gradually wins out over the ones that lift it, so the corner sits low even when your face is at rest. Your expression has not changed, only the resting position of your mouth. It is very treatable.

It lifts the corners noticeably and softens the lines considerably. Where the crease is deeply etched, expect a marked improvement rather than complete erasure, and better results again after a second treatment or a course of skin treatment alongside.

The muscle relaxing element lasts three to four months. Filler in the crease lasts nine to twelve. Many clients maintain the muscle treatment more often and top up the filler once a year.
