What it treats, and what it does not

It is not a weight loss treatment and it is not an alternative to one. If the concern is overall body weight, this is the wrong tool and you will be told so at consultation rather than sold a course that cannot deliver. It also cannot tighten skin. Where laxity is the real problem, treating the fat underneath it can leave the skin looking looser rather than better, which is exactly the kind of assessment that has to happen before anything is injected.

What to expect

Treatment takes thirty to forty five minutes. The area is marked out, numbed, and a grid of small injections is placed across it.

Swelling afterwards is significant and worth planning around. The chin in particular swells noticeably for the first three to five days and can stay a little firm and tender for a fortnight. That swelling is part of how the treatment works rather than a complication, but it does mean you should not book it the week before an event.

Results build over eight to twelve weeks as the body clears the broken down fat. Most areas need a course of two to four sessions six to eight weeks apart, and how many you need depends on the size of the pocket and how your body responds. You will get a realistic estimate at consultation rather than an optimistic one.

Assessment comes first

Not everybody is suitable. A full medical history is taken, because there are conditions and medications that rule the treatment out. Under the chin, the assessment also has to separate fat from a lax platysma muscle and from simple jaw position, because all three look similar in the mirror and only one of them responds to this.

If the honest answer is that the result you want will not come from dissolving fat, you will hear that. Sometimes the better treatment is jaw filler for projection, or a Nefertiti lift for the neck band, or nothing at all.
