A defined jawline is the line that separates the face from the neck. When it is crisp, the whole lower face looks lifted and youthful. When it blurs, the face reads heavier and older, even if nothing else has changed.
That blurring happens for several reasons at once. The bone at the angle of the jaw resorbs with age. Fat pads slide forward and gather into early jowls. Skin loses its snap. The result is a soft, undefined border where there used to be a clean edge.
How it is built
Jawline work is structural, which makes it quite different from soft tissue filling. It uses a firm gel, usually Juvéderm Volux, placed deep against the bone where it can genuinely support the tissue above.
Treatment concentrates on three points: the angle of the jaw behind, to restore width and squareness lost to bone resorption; along the body of the jaw, to draw a continuous line; and at the chin, to provide the front anchor the whole jawline runs to.
The jowl itself is not filled. Building support in front of and behind it makes it far less visible, whereas injecting into it directly adds weight to the exact spot you are trying to reduce.
For men and for women
The target shape differs. A masculine jaw benefits from width at the angle and a squarer, more projected chin, producing a broader, more angular lower face. A feminine jaw is usually better served by a sharp, clean border and a slightly tapered chin, giving definition without width.
Both are achievable with the same product and completely different placement. Which one you are aiming for is agreed before anything is injected.
How much is needed
Structural work needs adequate volume to hold shape. Most jawlines need 2ml to 4ml in total for a visible, lasting result, and attempting it with 1ml usually produces a change nobody can see, which is a waste of your money.
If your budget suits a smaller treatment, we will normally suggest concentrating it on the chin first, since chin projection alone improves how the whole jawline reads. Building the jaw across two appointments is also entirely reasonable and something we plan for regularly.

Before and during your treatment
- A thorough consultation before your first treatment, during which your medical history is discussed and recorded so any contraindication is picked up before anything is drawn up
- Your lifestyle is discussed too, so expectations are managed honestly from the outset

- The treatment is not painful. You may feel the insertion of a very fine needle
- Every effort is made to avoid side effects, and the possible ones are discussed with you at consultation
After your treatment
- Stay upright for four hours immediately after treatment
- No exercise for 48 hours
- No saunas, steam rooms or heat treatments to the face for 2 weeks
- No facials for 2 weeks
- Have treatment at least two weeks before a holiday or an event, so the result has time to reach its full effect
- Aftercare is discussed with you, and a PDF of the leaflet is emailed to you
- You are given the chance to look in the mirror before you leave
- A review appointment is made to check you have the result you wanted, with photographs taken for your record

We are aware of the power of influence and the harm it can do. We are happy to treat clients from the age of 21, provided we are confident it is in their best interest after a thorough consultation.

It significantly improves how visible they are by restoring support in front of and behind them. It does not remove them. Where jowling is advanced and the main issue is loose skin, filler alone is the wrong treatment and a skin tightening approach or a surgical opinion is more honest.
Usually 2ml to 4ml for a defined result, depending on how much bone volume has been lost and the shape you are aiming for. You will get a specific figure and price at consultation before you commit to anything.
The gel used is firm by design, because it needs to hold structure against gravity. Pressed directly you may feel a slight firmness over the bone. In normal movement and to the touch of others it feels like jawline.
Twelve to eighteen months, often longer. The jaw moves less than the mouth or lips and the gel is built for longevity, so structural work is among the longest lasting filler treatments.
